Bed bug infestations have been on the increase in recent years with these blood-sucking pests notorious for their hardiness and ability to go unnoticed. Bed bugs are easily spread around by attaching themselves to clothing and luggage and making their way into shared sleeping accomodation or infesting your home.

Bed bug treatment and extermination should be started as quickly as possible in order to reduce the spread of an infestation. This is where DR.KILL can help, by sending one of our friendly and accredited bed bug exterminators to your premises to carry out a professional bed bug treatment and begin the process of removal.

Bed Bug Identification

  • Bed bugs have a strongly depressed, oval body and are normally mahogany red brown but become purple after feeding.
  • Females are 4mm-8mm in length; males are slightly smaller.
  • Bed bugs only have small wing buds but have well-developed antennae and compound eyes.
  • Bed bug legs are clawed, allowing them to climb rough surfaces.
  • Bed bug eggs are slightly curved pearly white and 0.8mm-1.3mm long. They are laid in the hidden areas and cemented to the surface. Three eggs laid per day and approximately 200 over the life. They have an incomplete metamorphosis; they hatch into nymphs after ten to 20 days. Five moults are normal and one blood feed is needed before each moult.

Bed Bug Habitat & Breeding

  • Bed bugs can be found on bedside furniture, door-casings, under window sills, pictures and posters, under peeling wallpaper, in cracks and crevices, in floorboards or skirting boards, in the seams of curtains, and any other similar place that may harbour an infestation.
  • The development rate of bed bugs depends on the temperature and food availability.
  • Egg to adult is usually nine to 18 weeks (depending on room temperature). This period is shorter during warmer periods.
  • Bed bugs have two to four generations per year. If they have fed then they can survive for up to a year at low temperatures, without feeding.
